It all started August 9, 2010 when I had my IUD removed. There was no turning back. Scott and I were not safe after it was taken out and if we conceived right away, that was great for us. We knew we wanted a summer baby and I had the idea in my head of conceiving while in Japan, so we could say this baby was "Made in Japan," just like my mom.
Because taking my temp and charting with Fertility Friend was so helpful with Carter, I decided I would try it again. So, I pulled out the BBT thermometer and at 7am every morning started taking my temperature. September rolled around and Aunt Flow showed up at the beginning of the month. So September we tried, tried again, but with no luck. October came around and lovely AF showed her ugly face on October 9th. October, we tried and tried and actually were pretty busy. On cd14 when I ovulated, my boobs were more tender than normal and I felt a very strong let down feeling in my left breast. "Strange," I thought to myself. This feel along with lower back pain continued and I had no signs of AF showing this month.
I anxiously watched my chart as my temps went up and stayed up. At 10dpo, November 2nd, I had to know, so I took a pee on a stick test in the afternoon at about 1:30 while Carter was napping (Really, way too early to test and get a positive). I watched and waited to see if a 2nd line would appear and because I was studying it I started to see the very faintest of lines.
Test that was taken November 2nd
I was in total and utter shock and I started sweating like a mother. I thought to myself, "Why do I always do this to myself and test in the middle of the day so I have to wait until Scott gets home late to share the news?" So, I stuffed some tissues in my pits and went about things. Haha, but first I took a picture.
And even though we were trying, I was in complete disbelief. I took the test and started saying, "No way! No way!" over and over again. After I reminded myself that a line is a line no matter how very faint it is, I sat on the sofa with the test in my hands and hand over my mouth, grinning ear to ear. I can't believe this is happening. Carter is going to be a big brother and Scott and I are going to be parents again. I ran to the computer, brought up a due date calculator, entered the first day of my last period, and hit calculate. My estimated due date is July 16, 2011. In my mind it's perfect. What a great 30th birthday gift!!
Carter was awake at this point, so I went to get him up and feed him lunch. After he was done eating, I slapped some makeup on and we took a picture together with the test. It's great because it looks as though he's giving a thumbs up with excitement.
We stuck around the house after all the excitement and amazing news. And later, maybe around 4 or so, I took a digital test to see if it would confirm my faint line. It sadly came up with "Not Pregnant," but I was ok with that because the digital tests need to be used closer to your missed period. I told myself I would just test again in a few days with first morning urine.
Because we're in Japan, I didn't really know how to tell Scott. I couldn't run to Target and get a new Daddy onesie and he got home after Carter was down, so I couldn't put his big brother t-shirt on him, so I got myself a piece of paper and wrote on it, "What do all these things have in common? *4 *July *9 months *labor * back pain *big brother *hospital *pregnancy test *positive!!" Then, at the bottom of the paper I folded it under and wrote, "I'm pregnant and due July 16, 2011. I love you bunches!" It was all I had, but it was good. He cried and we kissed and are both very excited about baby #2!!! So excited in fact, that neither of us could fall asleep that night and at 1:30 were up and on our iPod/iPads trying to get sleepy.
The next morning, I collected my cup-o-urine and proceeded to test with the digital and another pee stick. Pee stick turned positive, still with a very faint line, and I got "Pregnant" on the digital test. Yay for positive pregnancy tests!
I told Scott I had to tell my two Sarahs, so I had a Skype call with Sarah Myers which was really nice. This girl has been a great friend to me while we've been here. I don't know what I would do without her and our Skype dates. I love you Sar Ann! After my Skype call with Sarah M., I called Sarah Scadding to tell her our good news. She was excited and surprised. We hopped on Skype as well and the boys liked seeing each other.
Scott and I plan on telling our parents this weekend via Skype. I brought a big brother t-shirt with us just in case, so we'll put that on Carter and try to let them figure it out from reading the shirt. I think we've decided on calling his extended families when everyone is together for Thanksgiving and then waiting until Christmas to tell my family (the time difference makes it so that we can't call my family since we eat in the afternoon). Should be fun!
I can't believe we're going to be a family of four come next summer!
