First Big Baby Purchase

BRU had a big sale on strollers this past weekend and Scott suggested we take advantage of it.  I, of course, excitedly agreed and we came home with the stroller my little heart desired.

I'm 24 Weeks and She's About to Pop!

Sarah is 40 weeks pregnant and is about to welcome baby Levi into the world.  She has a c-section scheduled for this Tuesday, March 22nd.  While she was here for Carter's birthday lunch, we took one last belly picture together.  We can't wait to meet Levi this week!

Carter's 2nd Birthday

So, I know this is a blog for "Smitty," but I couldn't resist posting some pictures from Carter's 2nd birthday here at our house in Michigan.  Carter is after all Smitty's big brother.  Scott came home on time last Thursday, we had a fun dinner, opened presents, and had cupcakes.  It's been a great 2 years and I wouldn't change any of it for the world.  I can't believe my little boy is two already!  I love you baby boy!!

24 Weeks Already?

Week 24- All About Baby Smith

Your baby's growing steadily, having gained about 4 ounces since last week. That puts him at just over a pound. Since he's almost a foot long (picture an ear of corn), he cuts a pretty lean figure at this point, but his body is filling out proportionally and he'll soon start to plump up. His brain is also growing quickly now, and his taste buds are continuing to develop. His lungs are developing "branches" of the respiratory "tree" as well as cells that produce surfactant, a substance that will help his air sacs inflate once he hits the outside world. His skin is still thin and translucent, but that will start to change soon.

Devestation In Japan

On the morning of Friday, March 11, 2011, northeastern Japan was hit hard by an earthquake, rated a whopping 8.9 on the ricter scale, and then by a devestating tsunami.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the people and country of Japan.  It's so sad to watch the news coverage and the images of mother nature destroying such a beautiful country.

That being said, I'm very glad that we're home from Japan, safe and sound.

Oh, Week 23!

Week 23- All About Baby Smith

Turn on the radio and sway to the music. With her sense of movement well developed by now, your baby can feel you dance. And now that she's more than 11 inches long and weighs just over a pound (about as much as a large mango), you may be able to see her squirm underneath your clothes. Blood vessels in her lungs are developing to prepare for breathing, and the sounds that your baby's increasingly keen ears pick up are preparing her for entry into the outside world. Loud noises that become familiar now — such as your dog barking or the roar of the vacuum cleaner — probably won't faze her when she hears them outside the womb.

Carter's New "Not A Baby Anymore" Room

We've recently decided to put the baby in Carter's current room and upgrade Carter to a big boy room in the guest room.  For right now, the room is empty and the new home of a 4 chair fort.  Carter loves it!!!

I don't have any pictures to show the fabrics used, but my Aunt Shu Shu agreed to make a quilt for the new bed.  Today I found one of the fabrics I'd like to use, but I found it here in Ann Arbor, not in Dayton.  It's a red/brown/tan plaid fabric and I'd like to use a solid tan, brown, and red fabric as well.  She's a great quilter, so I can't wait to see what she comes up with.

I found this 3 piece furniture set from Target Online that Carter will get in his new room.  It comes with a night stand, a dresser, and a head board.  The bed is a twin size bed, so he's really upgrading 100%.  We will have to purchase a frame, box spring, and mattress.

While searching through HGTV's website, Rate My Space, I found this wall and fell in love with it.  Scott liked it as well, so these are the colors we're going with (red, brown, tan, and white) and the way we will paint the walls.

And so, I think we'll go with fire truck accents.  This is a 4 piece water color I found on Etsy.com.  They come matted and will fit in 11x14 frames and the set is only $38.  My vision is to frame them and hang them on the wall that shares the bathroom.

22 Weeks Marks the Start of Month 5

Week 22- All About Baby Smith

At 11 inches (the length of a spaghetti squash) and almost 1 pound, your baby is starting to look like a miniature newborn. His lips, eyelids, and eyebrows are becoming more distinct, and he's even developing tiny tooth buds beneath his gums. His eyes have formed, but his irises (the colored part of the eye) still lack pigment. If you could see inside your womb, you'd be able to spot the fine hair (lanugo) that covers his body and the deep wrinkles on his skin, which he'll sport until he adds a padding of fat to fill them in. Inside his belly, his pancreas — essential for the production of some important hormones — is developing steadily.
