This morning I called 3 of my girlfriends to share our news with them. I thought it would be easy, but it was incredibly difficult.
Yesterday, I talked to Kris. She was busy making dinner. She was excited to hear, but it just felt weird. Maybe all 3 phone calls felt weird because I'm not in the same country or because I haven't seen them in a long time and then I spring such big news on all of them? She went on to tell me about how a girl she works with is TTC and said that she and Phil are excited about having some kiddos of their own. I immediately asked if she was pregnant. She said, "No, but one day." Then I asked if she and Phil secretly got married. She said, "Well you never know. We could've run off to get married, but no we're not." So, that was that.
This morning, I talked to Shan. It was really, really hard to tell her because she just recently miscarried. How do you tell a friend that you're excited to be expecting after she just went through such a great loss? :( It wasn't my intention to make her upset, but my life, all of our lives, have to move on. I can't let one friends tragedy consume my life and my desire to have more children. I'm sad to know that a dear friend of mine lost her baby and I wish there were something I could do or say to make her feel better and lessen the pain. I just can't imagine what it's like to go through something like that. I love her and miss her!
After talking to Shannon, I talked to Kel. I had an inkling that it would be a cluster talking to her, and I was right. She just had Klara on October 22nd, so she was pumping and the baby was screaming in the background during our call.
One question in common from all three of them though, "Was this planned?" I was talking to my mom shortly after my last call and I told her that they all asked me this question and I just think it's a weird question to ask. We didn't tell anybody that we were TTC (ok, well, just both of the Sarahs in my life) so I figured it would come as a surprise, but I started thinking, if Shannon knew we were trying would it have been less of a blow?? I mean, it's nobody's business really, but should I have said something before? With Carter, they all knew we were trying. I was very open about it all and they were all very surprised and excited when I called to share our news for him. This time around was def not the same, but I'm ok with it because I know we wanted another child and Scott and I and our parents are very happy and we all can't wait to meet Smith Baby #2.

I'm very excited for Smith baby #2...and I am so sorry that telling the others wasn't very supportive. I love you!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to hear that too. Since ours wasn't planned, I prefaced our news with, "This was a huge surprise to us!", so I didn't have to hear that question. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteAwwww congrats Sam! That is so exciting!
