59.65 kilograms

Today, Carter and I set out to find any kind of medical clinic we could so I could be weighed for a beginning pregnancy weight.  Before we left, I came up with some questions I might want to ask and used google translate to translate it all to Japanese.  I emailed the Japanese to myself and then took my iPad with me.  When we finally found an actual OB/GYN clinic I was thrilled, whipped out my iPad, and started to try to communicate.

I just thought this would be some simple task.  WRONG!!  After a few minutes of going back and forth, I was finally escorted from a mini drugstore like place in front of the clinic to the actual clinic behind.  We took our shoes off, popped on some slippers provided, and walked back to where the Dr. was.

Wow, this place was def legit, but kind of scary.  The whole place smelled weird and the hallways were dark and there were no patients around.  All the ladies there were dressed the same with masks on and little cap like hats, straight from the 1950-60's.  She escorted me around the corner to where the Dr. was and he pointed to a chair for Carter and I to sit in.  This room was obviously where medical procedures were done.  The lights almost seemed as though they flickered like in a bad slasher movie and curtains were pulled everywhere like in an ER.

He very bluntly and coldly shouted at me, "What do you want?"  At first, I was surprised he knew any English.  He looked liked a typical Japanese man...very short, eyes that looked as though they'd pop through his eye sockets at any moment, and a cold, mean scowl on his face.  I became nervous at this point.  I pulled out my iPad and showed him in Japanese what I was there for.  He very quickly came back with, "This is bad Japanese" and proceeded to lean back in his chair while grunting.  I tried explaining I was just wanting to use a scale to get my full body weight to take back to my doctor in the U.S..

He called all of the nurse ladies in and pointed to a table.  They shook their heads and turned on some machines.  I started shaking my head as I looked over to where they were and she was turning on an ultrasound machine.  I quickly said, "No, no, no!  No thank you!"  I frantically looked around the place looking for a scale.  I finally found one and pointed to it.  "This," I said with urgency.  "This is what I'm here for.  Not an ultrasound."  The doctor right away yelled back at me, "Why not? (rambled some Japanese to the ladies around him) and again shouted, "Why not?"

One of the nurses grabbed Carter and turned on the scale.  I shook the slippers off and hopped on quickly.  "59.65" is what the scale said.  I thought to myself, "I don't even dare ask what the conversion to pounds is.  I'll just google it when I get home."  I explained to one of the nurses who knew a tad bit of English that I was just there to be weighed so that I could have a beginning pregnancy weight.  I told her that I didn't need an ultrasound as I would be having one when we returned to the States.  She repeated this back to the doctor and again, he leaned back in his chair, scratched his head, and asked, "Why not?  Why not?"  I finally just started to put Carter's jacket on and politely, yet as quickly as possible, leave.

If the people that work in this office are allowed to laugh and have fun,  I'm sure I'll be the laughing stock for a few days, as they were all cackling when I was walking out.  Almost as to think I couldn't hear them from the front waiting room, wrong!

Haha, oh well.  It was quite an experience and I now know that I weigh 131 pounds.  I was 139 when we left to come here, so I've lost 8 pounds and I guarantee some of those lbs I've lost since last Tuesday when I learned I was pregnant.  And the good news is that I started out at 130 when I was pregnant with Carter, so I'm pretty much back to my starting weight.

Now, my only regret is that I didn't have a hidden camera to capture all that happened on video or even snap a quick picture with the doctor.  :)
