It's "Blueberry" Time

Week 7- All About Baby Smith

The big news this week: Hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs — although they look more like paddles at this point than the tiny, pudgy extremities you're daydreaming about holding and tickling. Technically, your baby is still considered an embryo and has something of a small tail, which is an extension of her tailbone. The tail will disappear within a few weeks, but that's the only thing getting smaller. Your baby has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry.

If you could
see inside your womb, you'd spot eyelid folds partially covering her peepers, which already have some color, as well as the tip of her nose and tiny veins beneath parchment-thin skin. Both hemispheres of your baby's brain are growing, and her liver is churning out red blood cells until her bone marrow forms and takes over this role. She also has an appendix and a pancreas, which will eventually produce the hormone insulin to aid in digestion. A loop in your baby's growing intestines is bulging into her umbilical cord, which now has distinct blood vessels to carry oxygen and nutrients to and from her tiny body.

Week 7- All About Mama Smith

Baby Bump:  Nothing yet
Weight Gain:  Still the same at 131 pounds
Maternity Clothes: Nothing right now, but I look forward to making the switch once we get home whether I need to or not.  Maternity jeans are sooooo comfy!!
Stretch Marks:  Nope
Aches & Pains:  RLPs, morning sickness (all day sickness), dizziness, fatigue, etc.  If it's a pregnancy symptom, I'm feeling it.  I'm ready to be out of the first tri!!!
Sleep:  My wacked out dreams seem to be keeping me from entering a deep state of REM.  I can fall asleep and then I'm waking up a few times in the night.  It's not terrible though because I'm able to fall right back to sleep.
Baby Movement:  Nothing yet, but I look forward to the time when I feel like her foot is so far up in my ribs it's going to come out my nose.  :)
Food Cravings/Aversions:  I crave Mott's mixed berry and strawberry banana applesauce and Ocean Spray Cran Apple juice like something terrible!!!!  I have an aversion to most everything, especially Japanese grocery stores. OMG, it's really bad!
Gender:  Scott's cousin's wife, Betsy, says there is a chain within the family and it calls for girl next.  So far the great grandchildren have been this: boy, girl, boy, girl, boy, which for us to have a girl next.
Belly Button:  No change
What I Miss:  Home, and everything about the States!!!
Looking Forward To:  Leaving this God fore saken country they call Japan.  2 weeks 5 days until we leave.
Energy Level:  I read books and play cars with Carter during th day while laying on the sofa or in bed.  Energy is at an all time low!

Baby Bump Week 7

And for a 7 week extra, Scott caught this on film.  It just makes my heart melt!  I know we'll eventually be able to get a better version of this shot, but this is sweet because it was not staged.  He came over and put his hand right up there.

Thanksgiving & Smells

Thursday was Thanksgiving and we called Grandma Westfall to tell her our news while everyone was over at her house for dinner.  We called before Scott left for work.  She was surprised and happy for us.

Scott's cousin's wife, Betsy, said there is a chain within the family which calls for another girl next.  She had a boy, Scott's cousin had a girl, we had Carter, Scott's sister had a girl, and then Betsy had another boy.  Just sayin'!

Last Saturday, we received a package from mom and dad with all kinds of things to make for Thanksgiving;  canned cranberry sauce, green beans & cream of mushroom soup, Stove Top stuffing, turkey paper plates/napkins/table cloth, jello, canned fruit, and pudding among many other things.  It was a great surprise.  Saturday we went to the house of a Japanese man Scott works with and we brought the stuffing and cranberry sauce.  They were both big hits and I ended up eating about 75% of the cranberry sauce.  :)  It was sooooo good!

This last week was hard for me because my morning sickness was in full swing and because our apartment is so tiny, smells seem to linger around for awhile.  Carter didn't eat much of anything healthy last week because I couldn't stand the smells to cook anything.  Scott made his own meals as well (sorry baby!).  The sink drain needed to be emptied and cleaned out, so I gave it a whirl, but OMG, once I went to grab for it just the thought of what I would see made me gag.  So, I had Scott get it cleaned out instead.  :-/

Hopefully the m/s and the problems with smells goes away quickly.

Weight at Red Cross

There is a Red Cross blood donation center at the play place.  I went back to scope it out and see if they had a scale.  They did, so I went back to where all the kids were and asked a woman if she spoke English and right away she said yes.  I asked if she could help translate for me at the Red Cross center.  We walked over together and she kindly asked the Japanese worker if I could use the scale.  The worker said yes, so I hopped on.

I weighed 59.60 kilograms which is still right at 131 pounds.  The last time I took my weight was November 10th.

Before we left, I had her ask if I could use the scale maybe once a week and her response was, "Of course.  Anytime."  I feel such a sense of relief knowing I don't have to go back to that scary OB clinic.

Horizontal

Today was bad....really bad.  I didn't throw up, but I wanted to.  And I'm so tired I can't stand it.  I laid on the sofa with my pillow and watched Carter play or read to him while laying down or wheeled cars down my leg like a giant ramp.  Bleh!

I had 1 scrambled egg and OJ for breakfast, a glazed chocolate donut for snack before nap, a banana after nap and before getting Carter up, 6 saltines for a late afternoon snack, and a bowl of Campbell's chicken and dumpling soup for dinner.  Water with all these meals of course which I can't seem to stomach either right now.  Plain water, UGH!

It's 7:45pm and after I finish this post, I'm going to pop in a movie and watch it until Scott gets home from work.  Is baby telling me that he/SHE is going to be a doozy after arrival and to get all the sleep I can get now?  We shall see.  Hopefully tomorrow is better!

Oh My Sweet, "Sweet Pea"

Week 6- All About Baby Smith

This week's major developments: The nose, mouth, and ears that you'll spend so much time kissing in eight months are beginning to take shape. If you could see into your uterus, you'd find an oversize head and dark spots where your baby's eyes and nostrils are starting to form. His emerging ears are marked by small depressions on the sides of the head, and his arms and legs by protruding buds. His heart is beating about 100 to 160 times a minute — almost twice as fast as yours — and blood is beginning to course through his body. His intestines are developing, and the bud of tissue that will give rise to his lungs has appeared. His pituitary gland is forming, as are the rest of his brain, muscles, and bones. Right now, your baby is a quarter of an inch long, about the size of a lentil.

Week 6- All About Mama Smith
Baby Bump:  Just bloat from time to time
Weight Gain:  Not sure, but I doubt I've gained anything.  I haven't felt like eating much lately.
Maternity Clothes: Right now my regular clothes are too big because I've lost weight, so I think it'll be awhile before I need to make the switch.
Stretch Marks:  Nope
Aches & Pains:  Well, it has all started for me.  RLPs, morning sickness (all day sickness), dizziness, fatigue, etc.  If it's a pregnancy symptom, I'm feeling it.  I'm ready to be out of the first tri!!!
Sleep:  Hasn't been so bad, but I'm got the pregnancy tiredness, so I've had no troubles falling asleep.
Baby Movement:  Nope, but at night I lay with my hand on my belly and feel gas bubbles which reminds me of babe movement.  Such a nice feeling!!
Food Cravings/Aversions:  I'm having major food aversions!  Everything smells bad to me and being here in Japan where everything smells like fish is about to kill me.  Nana was listing off Christmas dinner menu and not one thing sounded good.  :(  I am however, craving a club sandwich, a JJ turkey sub, Mama's chicken puffs, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, green beans, fresh fruit, caesar salad, etc.
Gender:  I can't wait until our big ultrasound to see if all these "girl" dreams I've been having are right on.  :)
Belly Button:  No change
What I Miss:  Alcohol, home, and everything about the States!!!
Looking Forward To:  Calling Grandma Westfall on Thanksgiving to tell her the news!
Energy Level:  Low, low, low!

Baby Bump Week 6

It's A Girl!

Two nights ago, I had a dream that I was breast feeding a baby girl and she was a talking infant.  As I was trying to put my right boob that was spewing out milk in her mouth, she said to me, "It's about time.  The last 3 days all you've given me if creamy stuff."  My reply while laughing out loud was, "You little shit!"  :)

Oh, So This Is What It's Like?

Carter's sick and insists on sitting on my tummy every minute of the day.  He also insists on eating, which means me cooking or preparing things for him, only to turn it away once it's in front of him.  This wouldn't be an issue if I didn't want to vomit with whatever it is that I'm putting together for him.

This morning, I was able to choke down about 3/4 of a scrambled egg and some juice box OJ.  15 minutes later I had stomach cramps and the runs.  So I waited.  We napped from 11-12, not near long enough, and when we got up I gave Carter a cup of snacks and I warmed up some left over mac and cheese.  Not a good idea.  15 minutes later I had stomach cramps and the runs.  (See a trend here?)  Dinner time rolls around and I warmed up some left over marinated chicken and peas for Carter, which again makes me want to vomit.  After having the runs all day even when I wasn't eating and having this nasty cold, I wasn't about to eat anything that we had in the apartment for dinner.

I packed Carter up in the stroller and we walked to Subway.  I just wanted a sandwich that wasn't greasy and going to upset my stomach yet again.  As soon as we got back, I gobbled down half of my sub and so far (it's 7:15pm) it's the only thing that has stayed in me today.

I haven't even been able to drink water.  The thought of drinking it makes me want to gag.

I forgot what all this pregnancy nonsense was about.  Haha!  It's no walk in the park.  It's truly hard work making a baby.  All I want to do now is sleep ALL day, not chase after a 20 month old all day.  Right now, if I had to rethink all this through again, I'd probably wait until we returned from Japan to conceive.  They don't have SeaBands here for motion sickness (also great for morning sickness) or ginger ale, which I despise, but at least it's something I could try to relieve the nausea.  Oh well, less than a month to go!!!!!!!

I love you little bean, but you're making Mommy very sick!  Hopefully you hear me reading this aloud to you and decide to give it a rest tomorrow.  I love you!
